Stephanie Gerwin is a Principal at Backen and Backen and leads the design of premier custom homes across the US and internationally.  Driven by her passion for architecture, Stephanie’s elegant compositions perfectly engage the land and capture the spirit of place.  She is dedicated to impeccable client service and creates each project vision through careful dialogue with clients, innovative thinking and site exploration.  Stephanie’s creative talent, technical expertise, and attention to detail make her a trusted partner for clients, builders, and consultants.

Since joining the firm in 2014, Stephanie collaborated closely with the late Howard Backen, working in every facet of design—sketching and refining all aspects of a project to perfection. Their work together included the Beverly Hills home of Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, which was featured in the June 2021 issue of Architectural Digest.

Extending the legacy of design excellence, Stephanie is designing projects across the US and continues to collaborate with Ann Backen on a 200-acre regenerative ranch in Wyoming, where regenerative practices are thoughtfully integrated into every aspect of the project, from soil to pasture to buildings. 

With over 30 years of experience, Stephanie dedicated her early career to working with highly-esteemed architectural firms in Aspen, Colorado.

Stephanie graduated from Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Arts degrees.  She is a licensed architect in Colorado, Wyoming, Utah and Texas, a LEED accredited professional, and is NCARB certified.
