BIG ISLAND RESIDENCE

Modern Barn, Residence, Hillside, North Kohala, Mauna Kea, Net-Zero, Wood, Stone,

Big Island, Hawaii

To be built on the hillsides of North Kohala, Big Island, Hawaii. This residence is designed with an open floor plan with glass walls that slide away to offer views of Mauna Kea, the Pasific Ocean with Maui beyond. Along with the use of natural materials like hard woods, and local volcanic stone, the house will also include a solar array, water catchment and filtration system, and self-sustaining garden. Combining sustainable building practices and local material choices with technology, the two goals of the project are the goal of net-zero energy use and a goal of reduced carbon footprint.
